Jim Santoro, Dean of the School of Professional and Graduate Studies, was the keynote speaker at the Bellevue Drug Commission’s recent Alcohol and Drug Awareness Breakfast. Santoro, a licensed professional counselor, discussed the importance of educating our children and their parents on the dangers of alcohol and drug use as well as the importance of team work between parents, teachers, law enforcement and counselors. He spoke to more than 75 people of all ages during the annual event where community members are honored for their commitment to preventing substance abuse. Grace University today announced the establishment of the School of Professional and Graduate Studies, the result of a $1 million gift from a donor who wishes to remain anonymous. With this gift, the Grace University Board of Trustees has, to date, committed $1.7 million to the Growing with Grace campaign. Dr. James Eckman, president emeritus of Grace University, has published a new book A Covenant People – Israel from Abraham to the Present. The book features a history of the Jewish people from the Old Testament through the modern period, including the creation of the Jewish homeland if Israel in 1948 and their current struggle for survival.
The publisher (Thomas Nelson) describes the book as “an indispensable handbook for understanding today’s Middle East and the importance of the Jewish people.”

Dr. Linda Vermooten has been awarded Member status in the American Psychotherapy Association® and recognition as a Board Certified Professional Counselor. Member status in the association is reserved for individuals who are devoted to the field of psychotherapy and committed to continuing their education.

The Association for Biblical Higher Education (ABHE) has awarded the distinguished Biblical Higher Education award to Dr. James Eckman, president emeritus of Grace University. The award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in advancing and assuring quality biblical higher education.
Dr. Eckman was recognized because of his nearly 20 years of commitment to biblical higher education and the ABHE – chairing 20 accreditation review teams, serving on the ABHE Commission for two terms and serving on the ABHE board. He served as AHBE Board chairman for three years and helped raise more than $100,000 for the ABHE’s leadership center in Orlando. Grace University has the largest new student enrollment in more than 30 years. The number of new students arriving on campus from across the country total 161, which is a 55 percent increase over 2012. This is also the second consecutive year that enrollment has increased for the private, Christian university. Enrollment data show that while the top number of students are from Nebraska, California is ranked as the number two home state for new Grace University students. Grace University is expanding its EXCEL adult degree completion program because of its commitment to serving students and making Christian higher education more available locally, nationally and internationally.
The EXCEL degree completion program offers professional degrees in Business Leadership, Psychology, and Christian Ministry. Courses are five to six weeks long and classes meet in the evenings or online, making the EXCEL program a great fit for those working full time or serving in the military. Students typically complete the accelerated program, earning a bachelor’s degree, within an average of 16 months.
